Civerinos

When Civerinos first opened doors in 2015, they took Hunter Square, and just about the entirety of Edinburgh's carb-lovin' population, by storm. The family-run business quickly established itself as one of the capital's best-loved pizza joints with their trademark sourdough creations, colourful diner and modern take on traditional recipes. Over the last two years, word has spread, and they've now gone and kindly set up a second dwelling just down the road, with Civerinos Slice.

The flagship diner is perfectly positioned for visitors to the city, as it sits just a stone's throw from Edinburgh's historic Royal Mile. Its central location works well for locals too, and it's an ideal distance to the city's boozing quarter and university buildings. Not that we're implying the two are intrinsically linked, of course.

The decor is bright and colourful and so is the menu. There's a creatively-christened collection of pizzas to choose from, ranging from the Philly Cheese Steak Calzone, feat. Civerinos' own hot AF sauce, to the vegan Meat is Murder.

Whichever one you go for, the 72 hour slow proven dough, san marzano sauce and lashings of freshly grated mozzarella are guaranteed to hit the spot. If that's not enough stodge to satisfy the hunger pangs though, you might want to follow it up with a Nutella Calzone or bowl of Zeppole Hot Doughnuts, served with a sprinkling of cinnamon sugar. Yes, these things exist; no, you should not think of the waistline.
