Wellington Coffee

Newtown has a habit of embedding some of its greatest cafes almost underground, in basements and cellars almost below pavement level. Perhaps it's something to do with protecting cult favourites from being overrun by busy coffee slurpers unprepared to savour the flavour and atmosphere... or perhaps it's simply because Edinburgh has the craziest structure in the history of architecture. Either way, if you're not looking out for Wellington Coffee, you might miss it – and what a massive shame indeed.

Their internet presence is adorned with accolades from coffee geeks and enthusiastic punters alike; it certainly seems like Wellington have won the coffee crowd over entirely. Their coffee is sourced from London-based roasters Square Mile, and is done justice by its skillful preperation and presentation. The cosy wee cafe is famed for its scones which, on a bright and clear day, we suggest taking to the outdoor seating, slathering with jam, and demolishing while overlooking a beautiful view of Fife. Beaut.
