Edinburgh International Film Fest lunges into action stations this week, along with Bard in the Botanics, a new Caravaggio exhibition at the Scottish National Gallery, a live performance of Jeff Buckley's Grace and a Sneaky Pete's show from Mike Servito

Edinburgh International Film Festival is off to a wicked start after launching yesterday with a movie our film section declared their "best opening film in years", Francis Lee's God's Own Country. As per, the programme features all manner of special events and themed strands; from American and British-focused curation to 'World Perspectives', along with archived films, shorts and animations, so you're sure to find something up your cinematic street. Glasgow Vintage Flea Market
BAaD, Glasgow, 25 Jun, 10am-4pm
June might mark the start of taps aff season, but that doesn't mean you can't make a bit of an effort with the tap you're, er, taking aff. Essentially, the Barras Arts and Design Centre host a Vintage and Flea Market this week, and we think it's the perfect opportunity to pick up some summery threads. Plus, there'll be retro homewares, antiques and collectables, furniture, and even the odd food stall too.

Tramway, Glasgow – open now

Drawn from the first five years of her artistic career, this solo exhibition by young Harlem artist Tschabalala Self showcases her bold, confident and vibrant paintings and works on paper, concerned with the concept of the Black female body within contemporary culture. Only her second solo show in the UK, Self is one to watch: catch her while you can. Free admission.

Beyond Caravaggio
The Scottish National Gallery, Edinburgh, Until 24 Sep, times vary

The Scottish National Gallery's much anticipated Beyond Caravaggio exhibition continues this week after throwing open its doors to the public on 17 Jun. A collaboration with National Galleries of London and Ireland, this is Scotland's very first exhibition of works by Caravaggio and his followers (the so-called 'Caravaggesque painters'). Bard in the Botanics
Botanic Gardens, Glasgow, various runs between 21 Jun-19 Jul
After celebrating its sweet 16 but last year, Bard in the Botanics is back for its 2017 edition of al fresco Shakespeare. This year's season, entitled These Headstrong Women (nailed it) features performances ofThe Taming of the Shrew? (note the question mark), Timon of AthensQueen Lear and Measure for Measure; all, as usual, in the lush environs of Glasgow's Botanic Gardens.

Nomanslanding
Tramway, Glasgow, Until 2 Jul, times vary 
Pack your Saturday full of art at Tramway today with the UK premier Nomanslanding, a major international work developed with Refugee Festival Scotland by Graham Eatough, Robyn Backen, Nigel Helyer, Jennifer Turpin and Andre Dekker. The central part of the exhibition features "a monumental machine architecture designed to be a space for listening, contemplation and performance". Performances take place on the hour Tue-Fri between 4pm and 8pm, and Sat-Sun between 2pm and 8pm.

Mike Servito
Sneaky Pete's, Edinburgh, 29 Jun, 11pm
It's almost the end of the month, you deserve to kick-start your weekend a little early, right? Brooklyn-based Detroiter Mike Servito's DJing Sneak's tonight, bringing with him the sort of house, techno and party selection smarts that'll make your Friday morning hangover feel truly worthwhile. Promise.

The Sugarhill Gang

The Sugarhill Gang are playing Stramash. Yep, that's a sentence we certainly never thought we'd say, but this week you can indeed catch the rap pioneers responsible for 1979 hip-hop holy grail Rapper's Delight in all their glory in the Cowgate.
