GIT Award announces One To Watch winner for 2015

Huyton-born Louis Berry claims the One To Watch Prize ahead of the main award ceremony

Liverpool's GIT Award has announced the winner of its 2015 One To Watch Prize.

Huyton-born Louis Berry claims the gong, which will be formally presented with the full GIT Award at an Aztec Jungle-themed ceremony on Saturday 4 April, at the city's Kazimier venue.

Described by Getintothis blogger and GIT Award founder Peter Guy as "channelling the energy of Jerry Lee Lewis through the story-telling of Dylan," Berry has released just one track to date: 45, a raw garage rocker which was declared 'the hottest record in the world right now' by BBC Radio 1.

Berry's victory follows on from the success of last year's winner Låpsley, who has since signed to XL Recordings and will begin her debut UK tour later this month.

Now in its fourth year, the GIT Award – dubbed the 'Scouse Mercury' – is designed to celebrate the best of Merseyside music, with previous winners including Forest Swords, Baltic Fleet and Loved Ones. There will also be an Inspiration Award presented at the ceremony, previously collected by Africa Oye and The Hillsborough Justice Collective. Nine of the twelve nominees will play live at the show, to be hosted by improvisational comedy troupe Impropriety.

Guy added: "This year’s GIT Award is the most exciting yet – not only have we ten first-time nominees, but we’ve a show of great ambition. The Inspiration Award will resonate with not just Scousers, but music-lovers around the country."
