GIT Award 2015 shortlist announced

The twelve-strong shortlist for this year’s Get Into This (GIT) Award for Liverpool’s emerging bands and artists has been unveiled.

It's an eclectic line-up, ranging from electro duo D R O H N E to singer-songwriter Jane Weaver (recently confirmed as one of the first names for Liverpool Sound City 2015) via the neo-soul of Xam Volo and the psych-folk of The Sundowners. Pop-punkers Circa Waves are nominated for the second year running after making the 2014 shortlist, while Låpsley – winner of last year’s ‘One to Watch’ GIT gong – is also among the nominees.

Simon Raymonde of Bella Union said: “You have 12 outstanding talents, all equally deserving of the Award. Quite how we will whittle this down to one I don’t know but the good news is that whoever does win will be a beacon of light for all future artists from the area.”

Fellow judge Rich Walker of 4AD called for the model of the award – open to all musicians and groups hailing from, or based in, Liverpool – to be replicated across the country, saying: “More cities really should copy the GIT template and do their own award”.

The 2014 GIT Award was won by electronic producer Matthew Barnes – aka Forest Swords – with Lee Scratch Perry accepting the award on his behalf. The 2015 GIT Award winner will be announced on 4 April in a showcase at the Kazimier.
