The release of Ether, the album's opening track, follows on from U-235 which was unveiled last month. Atomic consists of reworked versions of the band's soundtrack to Mark Cousins' documentary Atomic, Living in Dread and Promise, and is the band's third soundtrack project following their scores for Douglas Gordon's Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait and the critically-acclaimed French drama Les Revenants.

Cousins' film premiered last year to mark the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during the Second World War.

The album will feature The God Machine / Sophia collective guitarist Robin Proper-Sheppard, composer Robert Newth and frequent collaborator Luke Sutherland.

Mogwai will perform their score for Atomic, Living in Dread and Promise at a one-off live-soundtracked screening of the film at this year's Edinburgh International Festival; tickets go on sale on 16 April.

Atomic tracklist:
