Edinburgh indie-pop outfit Indigo Velvet keep going from strength to strength – when we caught up with the band back in October, they were gearing up for a UK tour having just dropped then-new track Sunrise. After an impressive string of live dates (including a four-star show at Glasgow's Hug & Pint), the band – guitarists Darren Barclay and Jason Tucker, bassist Laurie Adam and drummer Billy McMahon – are back with fresh live dates, and new single Mona.

The new track features the band's blend of upbeat riffs, sunny melodies and a typically enormous chorus – listen to the new track in the player below.

Describing the origins of their sound, Tucker says: "Our parents had us listening to loads of different music when we were kids – all like Motown, 70s disco, 80s and then indie we discovered ourselves. We just combined it all together in our rehearsal room, and got tropical-pop." As for the inspiration behind the new track, lead vocalist Barclay says that he wants "people [to] listen to Mona and make up their own stories, then tell us!"

Indigo Velvet play headline shows at Hootananny's (Madhatters) in Inverness on 4 May, PJ Molloy's in Dunfermline on 5 May and the Garage in Glasgow on 6 May – tickets for those shows available here.

The band are also on the bill for Stereofunk Festival in Motherwell on 30 Apr, Knockengorroch World Ceilidh at Castle Douglas from 25-28 May, XpoNorth in Inverness on 7-8 Jun, the all-dayer at Glasgow West End Festival on 18 Jun, Belladrum Festival from 3-5 Aug, and Carnival 56 festival in Dundee on 13 Aug.
