Ayakara – Dark Glamour (Track Premiere)

Listen to Dark Glamour, the Iggy Pop-inspired new song by Edinburgh five-piece Ayakara

Feature by Music Team | 20 Apr 2017

After a great reception for previous single Dressed From ‘67, Edinburgh-based Ayakara are back with their follow up, Dark Glamour. Recorded and mixed by Alan Moffat at the Leith Recording Company and mastered by Mark Morrow, the new track sees the five-piece go in a slightly darker and fuzzier direction.

Describing Dark Glamour, Ayakara bassist Callum Jones tells us: “I see it as a kind of lust or appeal for something or someone that drives you to react and behave in ways you wouldn't normally, because you're possessed by their (or its) dark glamour."

Guitarist Felix Christie adds: “The inspiration came from listening to a lot of Iggy Pop, someone who pretty much sums up the idea of dark glamour to me. The iconic look and decadence of Iggy and Bowie played into the song, but we wanted to do it differently and transform it into something Ayakara."

Ayakara play Record Store Day at VoxBox, Edinburgh, 22 April; Midnight Breakfast Club, Bathgate, 28 Apr; Behind the Wall, Falkirk, 29 Apr; Gig in the Goil Festival, Lochgoilhead, Scottish Highlands, 6 May; XpoNorth showcase, Inverness, 7-8 June.
