If you've decided veganism isn't just for Veganuary, you'll want to try some of these great places for vegan and vegetarian food in Leeds.

Good for vegan cakes and bakes

Wapentake

Billing themselves as 'a little piece of Yorkshire', we'd argue that Wapentake is a big piece of awesome. Mouthwatering loaves abound, as do gluten free and vegan bakes. Vegan banoffee cupcakes, anyone? 92 Kirkgate, @WapentakeLeeds

Mrs Atha's Coffee & Tea

Independent coffee shop Mrs Atha's is a well-loved Leeds gem, serving great brews, clearly marked vegan options and vegan cakes. A good spot for doing a bit of reading, working or catching up with a friend. Central Rd, @mrsathasleeds

Cheap and cheerful vegan lunch

Humpit

Naming themselves after a portmanteau of their favourite foods – if you ignore the raging debate over how to spell 'hummus', that is – Humpit have got simple down to an art form, offering, yes, hummus and pita but in oh such a beautiful way. Great for a quick lunch or just to satisfy that frequent falafal craving. Corn Exchange, Call Ln, @humpithummus

Roots and Fruits

A stalwart of the Leeds scene, Roots and Fruits has been running as a vegetarian cafe for more than two decades and they recently updated their menu to be predominantly plant-based. Our tongues are wagging at the sound of one of their customer faves, The Whole Bowl – chipotle black beans, brown rice, mango salsa, guacamole and vegan ‘cheesey’ sauce. Better still, you can get 15% off every Tuesday with a Vegans of Leeds card. Grand Arcade, @RootsandFruitso
