There’s little over a week before Twin Peaks returns to our screens, but David Lynch and Mark Frost cannily continue to keep us in the dark about what to expect with this third season. The newest trailer doesn’t give much more away, but it does give us a glimpse of a few of the mysterious new characters in action.

The new Twin Peaks residents we see in the clip are played by relative newcomers Jessica Szohr, Melissa Bailey, Gia Carides and Nicole LaLiberte. No sign yet of any of the more high-profile new cast members like Naomi Watts, Michael Cera, Trent Reznor, Ashley Judd, Jennifer Jason Lee and Amanda Seyfried, but we are tickled by the rumours that Laura Dern is set to play a significant part in the series after Variety’s cover story on the revival heavily features the Inland Empire, Wild at Heart and Blue Velvet actor.

That feature also included some stunning photos of Dern hanging out with Lynch and Kyle MacLachlan, who plays Twin Peaks’ special agent Dale Cooper, making for a sort of mini Blue Velvet reunion – see the behind the scenes of the shoot video below. We particularly like the rumour going around that Dern could be playing Diane, the never-before-seen secretary for whom Cooper is constantly making audio memos on his dictaphone.

Like last week’s teaser, we also see a few familiar faces in the trailer. As well as agent Cooper, there’s police receptionist Lucy Moran (Kimmy Robertson), deputy Andy Brennan (Harry Goaz), agent Albert Rosenfield (played by the late Miguel Ferrer) and David Lynch himself as FBI chief Gordon Cole. Still no plot information, and barely any dialogue; all will be revealed 22 May when Twin Peaks premieres on Sky Atlantic at 2am, with a repeat at 9pm.
