There’s just over two weeks to go before Twin Peaks returns to our screens after 25 years away, but creators David Lynch and Mark Frost are still being cagey as to what we can expect from the third series. This eerie new trailer, not even a minute long, is the closest we have yet to getting a sense of how the new episodes might look and feel.

Titled 'Some Familiar Faces 25 Years Later', the trailer gives us a glimpse of some of the iconic characters from the show a quarter of a century on. Included in the clip are Kyle MacLachlan’s Agent Dale Cooper, Everett McGill’s Ed Hurley and Grace Zabriskie’s Sarah Palmer, mother of the murdered Laura Palmer, and we also see the great Harry Dean Stanton, who’s reprising his character from Twin Peaks' prequel Fire Walk with Me.

Other key original cast members making a return are Sherilyn Fenn as Audrey Horne, Dana Ashbrook as Bobby Briggs, Madchen Amick as Shelly Johnson, Peggy Lipton as Norma Jennings and James Marshall as James Hurley. As was revealed on one of the more playful Twin Peaks trailers, Lynch himself is also returning as hard-of-hearing FBI boss Gordon Cole.

Just as exciting as the returning actors are the new cast members. Some of Lynch’s favorite collaborators, like Laura Dern (Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart, Inland Empire), Naomi Watts (Mulholland Drive) and Balthazar Getty (Lost Highway) are reportedly making appearances this season, plus a whole host of other names, including Michael Cera, Trent Reznor, Jim Belushi, Ashley Judd, Jennifer Jason Lee and Amanda Seyfried.

Twin Peaks' series premiere screens on Mon 22 May at 2am on Sky Atlantic, with a repeat at 9pm.
