Safe as Milk reveal DJ programme
The programme has also been announced for the festival's on-site pub, featuring Richard Dawson, Jeff Mills and karaoke inspired by Mark E Smith and The Fall
Safe as Milk festival have unveiled their DJ programme for the inaugural event on 21-23 April, including BBC Radio 6 Music's Marc Riley and Chicago house hero Jamal Moss, aka Hieroglyphic Being. With DJs lined up to perform on both of the festival's stages, there will also be sets by WFMU's Brian Turner, Charles Bullen of This Is Not This Heat and Berlin techno giant Mark Ernestus, to go with a line-up starring Omar Souleyman, Butthole Surfers and Anna Meredith.
An on-site pub has also been built into Safe as Milk's plans, and as with any good boozer there'll be entertainment galore across the weekend, with events curated by The Wire, The Quietus and Bleep.com. Richard Dawson stars in a live version of The Wire's Invisible Jukebox, discussing the folk singer's musical favourites, while techno DJ Jeff Mills talks about his favourite comic books andtheir influence on his work.
Author Robert Barry will discuss his book The Music Of The Future ("A history of failures, mapping 200 years of attempts by composers, performers and critics to imagine a future for music"), with Finnish experimental rock heroes Circle also set to perform a "cosmic/acoustic" set, while a Fall-based live band karaoke night entitled You Are Mark E Smith! is also on the weekend's schedule. There will also be documentary screenings, quizzes and a modular synth workshop.
