Not suitable for vegetarians, Oink openly carves a whole pig as a kind of window display in its two shops on the Canongate and Victoria Street – but, for the carnivores amongst you, Oink’s roast hog rolls are a delectable delicacy worth seeking out. A white or brown roll is filled with hot pork and a choice of sage and onion stuffing, apple sauce, chili relish or haggis. The menu’s size options are amusingly pig-themed as well, starting with the Piglet (for children), the Oink (quite large), and the Grunter (for when you’re really, really hungry). Essentially, it’s no nonsense food at its best direct from Borders farmers Adam and Sandy, who certainly know a thing or two about doing a decent hog roast. For a sit down lunch try the Canongate shop, or for pork on the run head down to the piglet-sized Victoria Street branch. Oink can also be found with a regular stall at the Edinburgh Farmer’s Market and it does outside catering too.
