As an ever-increasing amount of pubs jump on the food bandwagon, it can be tricky separating the real gastropubs from those labelling themselves as such for simply serving up more than two kinds of mixed nuts. The Caley Sample Room is the real deal though. Named after the Caledonian brewery down the road, it reserves just one pump for Caley beer – Deuchars IPA – but given that they have a range of ales and more than 40 speciality beers and 36 wines (22 of which are available by the glass), lack of watering options is not really a concern. Similarly impressive is their selection of food – boasting an a la carte menu and daily specials board that is supplemented by a weekend brunch menu and a Sunday roast. Caley earned a nomination for Best Pub Grub at the 2010 Scottish Restaurant Awards. Nuff said.
