Swervedriver return with new single

Video by News Team | 10 Dec 2013

Oxford's Swervedriver return with new single Deep Wound, featuring vocals from Mark Gardener (of Ride), and a krautrock-flavoured remix on the b-side co-produced by Gardener. The quartet have been touring Australia and the US performing tracks from their back catalogue since 2008 – after recruiting new drummer Mikey Jones, they began recording new material, with a full album planned for 2014.

Returning to the majestic, sweeping indie songwriting of their most highly-regarded album, 1993's Mezcal Head, the new track shares stylistic markers with their British contemporaries, and a little of the swagger of 90s alt.rock giants like Dinosaur Jr. (for whom, in a previous life as a punk rock band, Deep Wound was once a moniker) added in for good measure. Back in 2009, the band's Adam Franklin remarked on the influence Dinosaur Jr.'s J. Mascis had on his career in The Skinny – read his appreciation piece here.

Franklin hasn't been idle in the intervening years since the Swervies initial break up, recording with his band Bolts of Melody, moonlighting with Robin Proper-Sheppard's Sophia Collective, and joining forces with Interpol's Sam Fogarino as Magnetic Morning
