The Stoke math-rockers return with a new double A-side single – watch the video below

...And when we say 'math-rock', we mean 'thrash-jazz'. That's All The Best Tapes' preferred terminology for their carefully sculpted racket, which calls to mind the brain-boggling urgency of The Mars Volta one minute and the shifting, metallic riffology of Alpha Male Tea Party or VASA the next. We've got an exclusive premiere of latest video Calle de la Cruces, taken from their forthcoming double A-side Perfect Hibernation, which is set for release on 10 March via new Manchester label Sunbird Records.

"The track is named roughly after where it was written, or more precisely the street where I originally wrote it, in the green room of Madrid's Wurlitzer Ballroom whilst on tour with Dead Neck," explains guitarist Marcus Barker. "I don't know if there's anything better than wearing skin-tight Lycra and using your entire body as a green screen in a video. We thought it'd be great, we were right."

The new double A-side follows a tricky two years for the band: then-vocalist Baker began suffering from Tietze’s Syndrome in 2015, which forced him to stop singing altogether. The band (then completed by bassist Max Bowman and drummer Danny Beardmore) did what any right-thinking rock band would do and simply dropped the vocals, adding guitarist Luke Medlock to the line-up in the process, and originally prepared to release Perfect Hibernation in October of last year – only for health issues to bar their progress once more.

Now fighting fit and ready to take on the world once more, All The Best Tapes are currently out on the road in support of the single, with dates in Glasgow (Hug and Pint, 7 Mar) and Edinburgh (Opium, 9 Mar) lined up this week. Watch the new video in the player above, and pre-order the record here.
