Music Video Premiere: Stanley Odd – 'Chase Yirsel'

Video | 21 Apr 2014

The rise and rise of Stanley Odd is a testament to the strength and diversity of the Scottish independent music scene – initially signed to Circular Records, they built a following through extensive touring, moving on from debut Oddio to self-release the fantastic Reject, which was nominated for the Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Award in 2013 – the only self-released album to make the list that year.

2013 also saw the band play a string of dates in New York City as winners of the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy in Scotland Big Apple Award, supporting The View at a high-profile show, and becoming one of the first Scottish hip-hop bands to play in the ancestral home of rap music.

Blending observational, personal and political rhymes and clever, subversive humour from front-man Solareye, and the infectious, neo-soul hooks of vocalist Veronica Electronica, backed by a super-tight band of musicians – Samson the Snake (drums/electronics), AdMac (bass), Scruff Lee (guitars) and T Lo (keyboards), the band trade in funk, jazz, pop and electronic licks, and are an incendiary live proposition.

After recently dropping a video for the Solareye-led cut Let Ma Brain Breathe, the band now unveil their new video for the track Chase Yirsel, taken from the EP of the same name which drops on 28 April on CD and download. A few lucky Odd Squad fans may have managed to cop this and Let Ma Brain Breathe on an exclusive Record Store Day 12" already. Check the links below for more news about the upcoming EP, and our interview with the band, conducted just before the release of Reject.
