In 2018, Ingleby Gallery celebrated its 20th anniversary as one of Edinburgh's leading independent galleries, and what better way to mark the occasion than with a shiny new venue?

The Barony Street premises, neatly placed in the heart of the New Town, is the third space to be occupied by the Ingleby crew, having previously displayed in both the owner's front room on Regent Terrace and in the old Venue (a legendary Edinburgh nightclub, for those who don't remember), but their new site is something really special. The former Meeting House of the Glasite Church dates back to 1834 and has stood empty for a generation. Now, it's a light, bright, airy space, speckled with colour when the sun shines through the iconic cupola, and the perfect place to get those creative juices flowing.

The gallery hosts a year-round exhibiting programme, presenting sleek shows by local and international artists in their pristine white paint and wood gallery spaces. They have a particular emphasis on displaying work from up-and-coming artists, which is always reassuring to see, and local residents might remember their Billboards for Edinburgh project, which saw a rotation of artists such as Charles Avery, Richard Long and Susan Hiller commisioned to decorate the exterior of the old building.

It's early days for the newly located space, but already there are some exciting promises on the cards, from paintings by Scottish abstract artist Callum Innes to a series of specially commissioned ceramics by Olivia Fiddes and furniture from Alistair Letch.
