Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum
He may have looked and behaved like a business-minded Santa Claus, but worldwide entrepreneur and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie had a lot more to him than just white-bearded joviality. Although he emigrated to America, one can never accuse Carnegie of forgetting his roots, with most of the town bearing witness to his generosity. This museum - dedicated to his life's work and refurbished this year to include voice commentary and touchscreen information panels - boasts archives, photograph collections, weaving and costumery workshops, and authentic domestic artefacts essentials which would have cohabited with the great man himself. Undoubtedly worth a visit, although do note the museum is only open March-October. Perhaps to allow AC preparation for his Christmas rounds.
