King's Theatre
The King's is a beautiful, traditional theatre – rich in baroque details and atmosphere. Built in 1906 by theatre entrepreneur Robert C. Buchanan, it has been drawing in the crowds (seating 1350 now, 1150 more back in the day when comfort was of less concern) since the days of Stanley Baxter and Jimmy Logan. Today it is run by the Festival City Theatres Trust, which is also responsible for the Edinburgh Festival Theatre.
As an theatre, The King's plays host to major touring drama – West End, National Theatres of Scotland and Royal Shakespeare Company productions – as well productions from local amateur societies. It also hosts the ever-popular King's pantomime and puts on a range of talks, workshops and special events throughout the year.
The theatre is currently under refurbishment. Updated details to follow.
