Deep in the heart of Old Town, nestled beneath the sinister Edinburgh underbelly of the Cowgate and the anxiously tourist-friendly Royal Mile lies a staple of alt-music culture. Fast approaching its fifth notorious year as one of the city's most prolific clubs/gig venues, Cabaret Voltaire's range of themed music nights has built up a staunch fanbase of indie-electro afficionados. Gleaming dark woodwork and floor spotlights dominate the main club and gig-space, where everyone from Los Campesinos! to Mumford and Sons have graced the stage; and while drinks are verging on the pricey, Cab Vol's classy ambience and effortless cool points are more than worth the extra pennies.
An Edinburgh institution. Go dance.
