What's On Scotland: EU Referendum

Right, pals – it's crunch time. No fun allowed until you've voted in the referendum. Afterwards, though, there's a mountain of amusement to be had, from drag nights at Electric Circus to Sub Club's relaunch, Glasgow Jazz Festival to Embassy Annuale 2016.

Each week The Skinny team hand pick a selection of events from the Scottish cultural calendar to provide you with this guide to the most exciting goings on in the week ahead. From gigs, plays and exhibitions to spoken word and pop up cake shops, we give you the insider's guide to things to do in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dundee every Thursday morning.

1. EU Referendum
23 Jun, Polling Stations Nationwide

Top thing to do this week? Vote. Vote like the wind. Vote like it's going out of fashion. Vote as if human rights are totally having a moment right now. Vote as if racism totally isn't. Vote like you've decided whether you want to be on the same side of history as a man who thinks this is how you use a capo. Make up your mind, find your polling station, vote and then go party at Broadcast, hoping to god we don't wake up with the worst hangover of all time. Image: Nicolas Raymond

2. Glasgow Jazz Festival: Kasami Washington
QMU, Glasgow. 27 Jun, 7pm

Get stuck into Glasgow Jazz Festival with majestic sax prodigy Kasami Washington at Queen Margie’s. His triumphant, extensive triple album (aptly named Epic) received critical acclaim after its release on Flying Lotus in 2015, so go and forget what you think you know about jazz and blow your own mind, one saxy scat at a time.

3. Sub Club Relaunch
Sub Club, Glasgow. 24 -27 Jun, 11pm

The month of June left Sub Clubbers temporarily displaced as their nautical haunt took some time off to scrub the decks and indulge in a little me-time. But worry not, Subbie returns this weekend, beautified and ready for business. On 24 Jun catch Sébastien Devaud, aka Agoria at Thunder Disco. The night after, join double-decade DJs Harri & Domenic at an official relaunch, and on 26 June embrace the groove at a Sister Sledge Afterparty.

4. Such a Drag
Electric Circus, Edinburgh. 26 Jun, 10.30pm

Round off Pride with a visit to Electric Circus's monthly drag night this weekend. It's a particularly exciting edition as they welcome international artist Crystal Lubrikunt to an already fierce line-up of resident queens and promise to donate every single tip to LGBT Youth Scotland. Classy as F.

5. Dundee Beer Festival
Forthill Community Sports Club, Dundee, 12pm, ticket prices vary

Today is Dundee’s turn to rejoice over everyone's favourite hoppy elixir with its very own Beer Festival. Dozens of brewers including Black Wolf, William’s Bros, Green Jack and Thistly Cross, loadsae live tunes and it’s all in aid of The Archie Foundation. Cheers. Image: Nick Cocozza

6. PAWS
The Lemon Tree, Aberdeen.23 Jun, 8pm
Summerhall, Edinburgh. 24 Jun, 8pm
Stereo, Glasow. 25 Jun, 7pm

Right, shall we have ourselves a bit of pop-punk, then? The ever-fuzzy, ever-hooky PAWS are playing shows across Scotland this week before embarking on a tour of England with latest record No Grace. Joining them are The Spook School, who continue to stir up sorely needed anarchy with tracks like Burn Masculinity and Binary from their new LP Try To Be Hopeful. Image: Eoin Carey

7. EIFF: Best of the Fest
26 Jun, various cinemas in Edinburgh, times and prices vary

Feeling a little intimidated by the blizzard of beauteous movies that Edinburgh International Film Festival's brought to the city? Well, you could peruse our Film editor's guide to the top 11 flicks of the fest, of course. But if you're looking for something a little more passive, simply turn up to one of EIFF's Best Of The Fest strand, a second chance to catch some of this year's most popular films for only £7. Keep an eye on their website for a full programme announcement on 23 Jun.

8. Glasgow Comic Festival
CCA, Glasgow. 28 Jun-3 Jul

It’s the west coast’s turn to fine tune its cosplay game in time for Glasgow Comic Festival 2016 (not to be confused with Comic Con, which doesn’t arrive in the G-Town until 2 Jul). Taking place between 28 June and 3 July, the festival involves all your usual panel talks, screenings and workshops, and one event excitingly titled Drink’n’Draw. Kapow!

9. Embassy Annuale 2016
Until 3 Jul, venues across Edinburgh

Co-ordinated by the titular Edinburgh gallery, this grassroots festival kicked off last week and continues until 3 Jul (online and in venues across the city). You can read an introduction to the whole thing here, as written by ECA degree show exhibitor Daisy Lafarge. This week's highlights include Embassy's residency exchange with Leicester's Two Queens studios and Rhythm Machine at Summerhall, a conceptual club night inspired by Andy Warhol's art parties.

10. Rosas: Fase
Tramway, Glasgow, 24 & 25 June, 7.30pm

Visit Tramway this Friday and Saturday to see choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker's company Rosas perform Fase, a menacingly repetitive and hypnotic sequence of dances including one solo and three duets performed to the music of Steve Reich. The piece is one of De Keersmaeker's most famous work to date and isn’t to be missed if you’re into avant-garde dance.
