The biggest thing to happen to Portobello since sand, Art Walk Portobello returns today and runs until 9 September, with another exciting events programme, including live music, live art, performance and more.

More commonly known as Art Walk Porty, this year's edition will explore the beach’s Pleasure Ground and the history of its seaside entertainment. Sound artist and musician Ross Whyte has developed a new commission as part of The BandStand Project entitled The Great Exhibition, a composition responding to Harry Lauder and the seaside musical era.

In addition, artist Greig Burgoyne has been invited to create three commissioned works for the Art Walk, and tomorrow he will participate in a day-long drawing performance on Portobello Beach, followed by two Public Walks.

Garbage
Festival Theatre, Edinburgh. 4 Sep, 7pm
Edinburgh-via-Wisconsin rockers Garbage are back, and they’ll be celebrating the 20th anniversary of their second album Version 2.0 with a special edition release of the album and an extensive world tour. Shirley Manson and co begin the tour in Edinburgh on Saturday, followed by a stop in Glasgow before continuing on across the globe.

Death Grips
Barrowlands, Glasgow. 31 Aug, 7pm
MC Ride and Zach Hill just can't make up their minds can they? One minute they're riding (excuse the pun) on a wave of success, the next they're calling it quits. The Sacramento duo continue to keep us on our toes, returning with their sixth album Year of the Snitch in June. A Death Grips show is not for the faint-hearted, so know what you're getting yourself into before you go. Image: Ross Gilmore

The Luna Cinema
Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh. 31 Aug-2 Sep, 6.45pm
The Luna Cinema take up a three-day residency in Edinburgh's Botanic Gardens this weekend. Could you even imagine a more romantic setting for Guillermo Del Toro’s Oscar-winning girl-meets-fish tale The Shape of Water? The film closes the open-air cinema's takeover at the venue, which also includes screenings of The Goonies and The Greatest Showman.

Cyrano de Bergerac
Tramway, Glasgow. Until 22 Sep, times vary
With the Citizens Theatre currently undergoing a £19.4m redevelopment project, the theatre’s artistic programme has been moved to Tramway, launching this month with a production of Edmond Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac. The play is given a Glaswegian makeover in this new production, by Citizens Theatre Artistic Director Dominic Hill, of Edwin Morgan’s Glaswegian-Scots translation. Image: Mihaela Bodlovic

The Happenstance
The Lighthouse, Glasgow. Until 30 Sep
Scotland’s contribution to the 16th International Architecture Exhibition at this year’s Venice Biennale, The Happenstance explores the theme of Freespace, bringing together artists and architects to work with young people nationwide. Missing Persons Club: SHYBOI
La Cheetah Club, Glasgow. 31 Aug, 11pm
The Discwoman collective have been successful in disrupting dance music’s hegemonic masculinity over the past few years, helping change the face of the global scene as a result. Yulan Grant, aka SHYBOI, is the latest addition to the NYC crew, with the Jamaica-born DJ’s track selection sitting somewhere between the dancehall and soca styles of the Caribbean and a tougher, colder techno sound.
