What's On Scotland 29 Jun-6 Jul: Mike Servito

It's almost the end of the month, so you'd be forgiven if the arrival of Thursday has left you with an insuppressible urge to enjoy yourself. This week, party with Mike Servito, hear tales at The Village Storytelling Fest and watch tricks at Magic Fest

Luckily, you can start right away. Like, tonight – Brooklyn-based Detroiter Mike Servito's hitting Sneaky Pete's, bringing with him the sort of house, techno and party selection smarts that'll make your Friday morning hangover feel truly worthwhile.

When it comes to Friday, give your party plans a nautical twist with Sensu's Boat Party, where Mano Le Tough and The Drifter will be leading proceedings from the Riverside museum on a clubby voyage down the Clyde. If you're in Edinburgh that night, check out Fractal Club as they team up with Untitled to bring Undersound London resident Harry McCanna to The Mash House.

The Village Storytelling Festival

Pleasance at the EICC, 4 - 28 Aug 19:30 (plus Sat 12, 19, 26 at 14.30pm; not Wed)
A staggering blend of circus, theatre and dance, Quebec's internationally acclaimed Cirque Éloize transform the classic film Metropolis into a virtuosic spectacle. As artists rebel, their grey cityscape is replaced by absurd humour, beautiful poetry and bursts of brilliant colour, in a world where fantasy defies reality. The acclaimed show has been described as 'extraordinary' and 'a feast of modern circus'.

Kelburn Garden Party
Kelburn Castle, North Ayrshire. 30 Jun-3 Jul
The unique festival at everyone's favourite graffiti-clad castle returns, with an exciting line-up drawing from right across the musical spectrum. We're particularly looking forward to sets from Pronto Mama, Flamingods and Akala as well as DJ sets from Mr Scruff and Optimo, but that's only scratching the surface – check out the full line-up here. Jac Leirner: Add It Up
Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh, 1 Jul- 22 Oct, times vary
From 1 July, Fruitmarket showcase the work of found object sculptor Jac Leirner. For her exhibition, the Brazil-based artist will show works from major collections along with a series of new works. These have been made using her obsessive, addictive process of repeatedly using the same objects, combining them into astonishingly beautiful sculptures that reveal the material poetics of the mundane. As well as the sculptural work, Leirner will also include a selection of watercolours from 1980-2016. Image: courtesy of the artist, Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel and White Cube.

Magic Festival
Various locations across Edinburgh, 30 Jun-8 Jul, times and prices vary
Nobody's too old for magic. If someone tries to tell you otherwise, bring them to Edinburgh's annual Magic Festival, taking place between 30 Jun-8 Jul in locations across the capital. If you're not sure where to start, try the Magic Fest Gala at Festival theatre on 8 Jul, ft. illusions, gravity-smashing levitation and all manner of circus-based entertainment.

Yorkston / Thorne / Khan
The Hug & Pint, Glasgow. 3 Jul, 7.30pm
Set the week off to a brill start with a collab between James Yorkston of the East Neuk of Fife, New Delhi’s Suhail Yusuf Khan and Jon Thorne of the Isle of Wight. They wed traditional Anglo-Celtic folk music to throbbing jazz basslines. If that sounds like a pretty eclectic mix of styles, you'd be right. And if that sounds like a tremendous treat, you'd be doubly right.

Le Thug + DTHPDL + Plastic Animals
Leith Depot, Edinburgh. 5 Jul, 8pm

Time for some industrial bliss, we think. This Wednesday head down to Leith Depot for a gig headlined by noisy four-piece Le Thug, a band who haven't played in the capital for quite some time. They'll be complemented by the equally alty sounds of Song, By Toad contemporaries DTHPDL and Plastic Animals. Stellar line-up. Image: Kat Gollock
