  • Jupiter Rising

A veritable wonderland of quirky art and stunning sculpted grounds, Jupiter Artland is the place to be at any time, but especially when they throw their annual music festival Jupiter Rising, taking place THIS WEEKEND, from the 26-28 August.

This year's stunning programme is curated by Young Father’s Alloysious Massaquoi, Hen Hoose, Auntie Flo and Shoot Your Shot and includes the likes of Malka, Poster Paints, and Susan Bear. There's also swimming in the park's vibrant tiled pool, performances from Josie Long, a pop-up bookshop from Lighthouse Books, and even a circus skills workshop.

Manuel Solano: The Top of Each Ripple
DCA, Dundee. 27 Aug-20 Nov
The first solo UK exhibition by Berlin-based Mexican artist Manuel Solano, spanning sculpture, painting and film, The Top of Each Ripple is a tender excavation of identity and the affective moments that shape our lives, formed in collaboration with studio assistants after Solano lost his eyesight due to an HIV-related illness. Girls Just Wanna: Ruby Gaines
The Hug and Pint, Glasgow. 1 Sep, 7:30pm
A series of live music nights showcasing female-fronted talent in Scotland, Girls Just Wanna welcome Ruby Gaines this month, supported by Olivia Thom and Peach Crumb. Her music draws on the likes of Jeff Buckley, Fiona Apple and Billie Holiday, crafting a sound that is distinctly fresh and modern. Image: Marieke Macklon.

Good Grief
Underbelly Cowgate, Edinburgh. Until 28 Aug
A clown show about grief might sound literally insane but this remarkable piece of theatre from Ugly Bucket proves us all wrong. Created at the behest of the group's dying friend, the often chaotic, always inventive piece explores the ways in which we understand and engage with grief. Ando Glaso Roma Cultural Festival
CCA: Centre for Contemporary Art, Glasgow, 27-28 Aug
Established in 2016 to explore the cultural heritage of the Roma communities around Scotland, art and culture collective Ando Glaso are throwing a weekend-long festival at Glasgow’s CCA. Highlights include workshops on traditional Gypsy dancing and music, and a storytelling performance from Jess Smith in collaboration with musicians Ciaran Ryan, Kevin Whyte and Ian MacGregor. Thanyia Moore: Just Being Funny

If you're nervous about diving into comedy at the Fringe in case it's bad and awkward (it could happen! It does happen), then let this comedy sceptic guide you - Thanyia Moore is cream of this year's crop and a guaranteed hilarious time. Plantbass'd: Battle Royale

Plantbass'd levels up this week with a spinning battle between some of Glasgow's most iconic DJs. Roo Honeychild facies off against DJ Egg, VAJ.Power takes on Casement, and Soilse's Doubt fights (OK, maybe not quite) with Stereo's own OISÍN. Beyond Borders Festival
Traquair House, Traquair, 27-28 Aug
Located in the grounds of Traquair House in the Borders (geddit?), Beyond Borders is Scotland's festival dedicated to Scotland's political and cultural heritage and fostering intercultural dialogue.
