Feature by Kate Pasola | 21 Sep 2017

The return of the SQIFF (Scottish Queer International Film Festival) sets the tone for a particularly cinematic Zap this week. We're truly buzzing for this year's line-up, which is packed to the glittering rafters with screenings, events and workshops. Sticking around between 27 Sep-1 Oct, this year's programme features 40 events, including the Scottish premieres for new works by cult filmmakers Bruce LaBruce and Jennifer Reeder, a screening of mental health documentary Sad Girl Cinema, a series of challenging shorts entitled Are We Queer Yet, a season about bisexual desire, a feminist porn night (read morehere), and a whole evening dedicated to failure. We're sold, SQIFF.

Vegan Movie Night: The Grand Budapest Hotel
Hendersons, Edinburgh, 24 Sep,
Head down to Hendersons Holyrood this weekend for the next edition of their Vegan Movie Night series, where damn fine flicks are paired with ethical eating. This week's movie is Wes Anderson's candy coloured classic comedy The Grand Budapest Hotel, and it's being served up alongside Salted Caramel Popcorn Milkshakes and vegan dawgs (or just regular ol' popcorn if you're a traditionalist. We won't judge).

Lionoil: Jane Fitz & Telfort
The Mash House, Edinburgh. 23 Sep, 11pm
Freerotation and Pickle Factory resident Jane Fitz impressed at Bicep’s SWG3 party back in February this year, with a techno and acid-laden set that drew scores of people out onto the dancefloor in what was one of the best sets of the evening. Get acquainted with this underrated DJ at The Mash House, where Telfort will also be providing the warm-up. Image: Andrew Denholm

Yianni Agisilaou: The Simpsons Taught Me Everything I Know
The Stand, Edinburgh. 26 Sep, 8pm
The Simpsons taught Yianni Agisilaou everything he knows. Seriously. He wrote a whole stand-up show about it. Sure, perhaps he was speaking in flippant terms, but it's safe to say that his show is an ode to the series in all its glory. Don't worry if you're only a casual fan either – Agislaou slickly weaves context and clips into his quips, enabling even the most passive Simpsons consumer to get fully on board.
