What's On Scotland 1-8 Sep: Animal Collective

This just in, we're pretty much hurtling towards an apocalypse. In other news, culture! We've got gigs aplenty, Art Walk Porty, a Progression reunion at Liquid Room and Let's Eat Glasgow.

So, it's official. We've pretty much broken the entire world. While we work out what the hell to do about that, let's do what the human race does best – distracting ourselves from our impending doom. A little less Anthropocene, a little more your local scene, right?! No, but seriously, the world's over.

Occupy yourself at Scotland's belting gigs, including Mt. Doubt's single launch at Henry's (2 Sep); the fuzzy greatness of Pinact at Broadcast (3 Sep); Trust Fund with The Spook School at Opium (3 Sep); Frankie Cosmos at Stereo (5 Sep); electro-pop earworm-creators Animal Collective at the O2 ABC (6 Sep); and, of course, Teenage Fanclub at The Liquid Room. Gigs a-go-go.

Art Walk Porty
Various venues across Portobello, Edinburgh, 2-4 Sep, 11am-4pm daily

Two things that aren't combined often enough: art and the seaside. Last year, Art Walk Porty changed that with their inaugural programme of 40 artists exhibiting work in 33 venues across Portobello. Now they're back, throwing open the doors of studios, curating site-specific artworks and hosting markets and pop-ups.

AW16 sees Dr. Martens introduce its most evolutionary concept since the original ‘AirWair with Bouncing Soles’ technology was engineered in the 1960s. DM’s Lite takes the iconic DNA, comfort and durability, but on an ultra-lightweight Phylon midsole, to offer styles that transcend from work-wear to fashion. This unisex collection includes the Newton Boot, Cavendish Shoe and Edison Tassel Loafer; available in Edinburgh and Glasgow stores. DM’s Lite: A new icon of rebellious self-expression is born.

Progession Reunion ft. Danny Howells
The Liquid Room, Edinburgh. 3 Sep, 10.30pm

Progression's original resident cast of Alan Dobson, Derek Martin and Gav Grant reunite after a ten-year hiatus, dusting down the vinyl and digging deep to take Edinburgh's clubbers on a trip down memory lane. Headlining affairs will be ultimate Progression guest and Dig Deeper label head honcho Danny Howells.

Let's Eat Glasgow
SWG3, Glasgow. 3 & 4 Aug, 11am

Foodie collective Real Food Real Folk reprise their blessed ‘food festival with a social heart’ on 3 & 4 Sep. Our Food & Drink editor is almost deliriously excited about it; evidence enough you should get involved. But if you’re still not swayed, p’raps take note of the fact it’s completely free of charge? That's right.

The Cat's Pyjamas
Beer Hall Bar & Kitchen, Drygate, Glasgow. 7 Sep, 8pm

Only one thing better a comedy night – a comedy night in a brewery. Luckily, Drygate have launched exactly that; a monthly open mic hosted by Hannibal's Pantry and Loddzilla. There's two-for-one pizza deals, student discounts and lashings of craft beer – and they give prizes to their performers! Cute.
