Sure, the it's the anniversary of Big JC's dramatic comeback, but we're not going to patronise you with egg painting events and what-not (though come to think of it, that actually sounds quite fun). Instead, we've lined up a spread of the best events happening across this deliciously long weekend.

First things first, food...

The Pitt's hosting a three-day extravaganza of street food, drinks and musicians in Edinburgh, while over in Glasgow there's the BAaD Backyard Launch Party ft. live street graffiti, music, DJs, installations, street food, beer and cocktails. Turn up, hang about and maybe raise a glass to the redeemer himself.

Charlotte Church's Late Night Pop Dungeon
Oran Mor, Glasgow, 14 Apr, 7.30pm

Any night which jumps from Amerie to Neutral Milk Hotel is alright in our book, and when that night is piloted by as charismatic a presence as Charlotte Church, all the better. Join Church and her band for an evening of high-octane pop covers; expect the unexpected. There's also stacks of gigs and parties taking place across the weekend. You can read our gigs of the week here, but let it be known that we're also particularly stoked for queer punk duo PWR BTTM's gig at the CCA on 15 Apr.

Edinburgh Mini Maker Faire
Summerhall, Edinburgh. 16 Apr, 10am-7pm

With only a few days left of Edinburgh Science Festival, it's time to cram. And what could be a better place to do so than the fifth annual Mini Maker Faire, a Summerhall-based jubilee of crafters, scientists, engineers and interesting people talking about interesting things. Get involved.

The Stand's Bank Holiday Specials

Well, no excuses this weekend – it's a Bank Holiday and The Stand's got treats in store both ends of the M8. Pissed Modernism Opening Party
Patriothall Gallery, Edinburgh, 14 Apr, 7pm

Party etiquette dictates that one shouldn't bring up politics at a party. Pissed Modernism, Edinburgh's annual rage-exhibition/ charity event disagrees. They take pissed-off artists (and their pissed-off art), bring in the craft beer and throw a big ol' shindig. The exhibition continues until 23 Apr, but with goodie bags, political table football and Astuto Baffuto on selection duties, the opening party's worth a shout.
