2015 is soon to be a hazy memory on this quixotic road we call life, but how are you going to see it out? The options are myriad but treacherous: ending one year and beginning another ten-deep in a dreary boozer or curled up with Jools Holland is no one's idea of fun (is it!?). That's why we'll be hand-picking the best New Year's events happening near you and including them here as the details come in.

Edinburgh

The Scottish capital's Hogmanay kicks off on the surprisingly early date of 30 Dec with the Scottish Fiddle Orchestra's annual show at Usher Hall, as more than 100 performers cramming themselves onstage for an evening full of fiddles, pipes, song and dance. On a similar tip, there's a New Year's warm-up on the afternoon of 31 Dec at the National Museum of Scotland in the form of the free entry, all-ages Hogmanay Family Ceilidh, where the Canongate Cadjers Ceilidh Band will insist that It's enthusiasm that counts, rather than experience.

The main event is almost certainly the sold-out Concert in the Gardens starring Biffy Clyro, Idlewild and Honeyblood, but the annual Hogmanay Street Party is no less impressive. Indie veterans Maximo Park headline the party’s Waverley stage, while fast-rising Glasgow five-piece WHITE play their first Street Party set. Elsewhere on the bill are punk duo Slaves, folk-rockers Shooglenifty and Glasgow folk ensemble Rura, as well as a Funk and Soul Classics DJ set from BBC Radio 6’s Craig Charles.

In clubland, New Jersey house hero Kerri Chandler descends on La Belle Anglele for a four-hour set, while Edinburgh club series Nightvision conjure up a Hogmanay special with Scandinavian dance wizard Todd Terje heading up the main room, plus a Pulse Vs SLVR Vs Altitude takeover in the Annexe space.

There's also a Mumbo Jumbo Hogmanay over at the Bongo Club, as resident DJs Trendy Wendy and Steve Austin spin the best in disco, house and electro while Bongo Dave supplies live percussion – plus deep funk, jazzy breaks, afro-latin and dub reggae on the top floor.

Meanwhile, the Scot:Lands pop-up festival returns on New Year's Day to help soothe your hangover in eleven venues across the city's Old Town. Rally & Broad host the spoken word Coorie-In:Land stage, while Glasgow's Chemikal Underground Records present Miaoux Miaoux, Emma Pollock and RM Hubbert on their Chemikal:Land stage. There's also the Lyrical:Land stage features performances from SAY Award-winner Kathryn Joseph, Michael Pedersen of Neu! Reekie!Idlewild frontman Roddy Woomble and the Mercury-nominated C Duncan, with plenty more from the worlds of film, art, spoken word and music across the various venues.

There's also The Final Fling over at the National Museum of Scotland's Grand Gallery: a ceilidh starring Auld Reekie's own Portobello Ceilidh Band.

Glasgow

Glesga's clubs keep the party in full flow – La Cheetah spread NYE over two floors, manned by a selection of fine electronic guest tunesmiths alongside some trusted party-starters from right here in't city: namely DJ Sprinkles, Palms Trax and Sparky.

Meanwhile long-running house night Subculture takes control of the Hogmanay decks at Sub Club, with headline guest John Talabot hopefully bringing some sunshine to our wintry lives with his with his Balearic-influenced sets alongside Harri & Domenic.

If your tastes are a little more... well, exotic than that, there's always Club Noir's New Year's Burlesque, promising an evening of 'champagne, showgirls and show-offs.' With DJs, daredevil fire and bagpipes among the fun, you're advised to dress up and 'look your best ever.'
