This August isn't quite the same as we're used to, but there's still plenty of artistic and cultural stuff happening, and that's because the Edinburgh Festivals are back!

In our August issue we take an in-depth look at the Edinburgh Art Festival programme, chat to Inua Ellams about his Edinburgh International Festival show, and catch up with Torrey Peters and Nina Mingya Powles ahead of their Edinburgh Book Festival appearances. The Fringe is back too, and we've taken both a micro (which of these shows sound good?) and macro (how can this festival be made less hostile to the very people who make it happen?) approach to their theatre and comedy programmes. 

Live music is back! We chat to Kapil Seshasayee ahead of his slot at Jupiter Rising, an actual music festival that is actually happening. The Edinburgh Film Festival has returned to its traditional home in August! To celebrate, we chat to Sparks about their Cannes-conquering oddball musical Annette, and meet Sheffield-based filmmaker Ryan Braund as he prepares to unleash his debut feature Absolute Denial on the festival. 

Elsewhere in the mag, we chat to CHVRCHES as their fourth album looms into view; our final EIF-supported longread looks at Scottish clubbing history through its graphic design; we look at the Journey to the East performance festival in Glasgow at the end of the month... there's loads going on, so grab a copy and get excited.
