We look ahead to live music in Manchester this July with DICE, ahead of the inaugural Bluedot festival as well as gigs from Weaves and former Amazing Snakeheads frontman Dale Barclay

Jez Kerr

Weaves
The quartet smashed a hole in the wall of Toronto's DIY scene in 2014 with their first EP, and have been on tour pretty much since. Their debut LP is a winning blend of cute pop and punk snarl; find out how it translates to the live arena this month. 7 Jul, The Castle Hotel, £7

Bluedot Festival
A new festival at the world-famous Jodrell Bank observatory near Stockport, Bluedot features headline sets from Jean-Michel Jarre, Underworld and Caribou, with Public Service Broadcasting, DJ Shadow, Floating Points and 65daysofstatic among the other highlights. Dozens of bands, an impressive location, and more science than you can wave a test tube at – what more could you ask for? 22-24 Jul, Jodrell Bank, £35 day, £129 weekend

Dale Barclay
The frontman in short-lived but much-loved Glasgow blues-punk outfit The Amazing Snakeheads, Barclay plays a headline solo set at Soup Kitchen. 24 Jul, Soup Kitchen, £6

Greg Wilson
The Merseyside stalwart presents an eclectic night of disco and funk at Hidden – listen to his Skinned DJ mix to get a feel for what’s in store. 29 Jul, Hidden, £8
