Fireworks in Leeds, Liverpool & Manchester

As you're busy wrapping up warm for the inclement weather, we've been scouting out the best places to go and catch (not literally) some fireworks this year in Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester and beyond.

And because this year's Bonfire Night takes place on a Saturday, we've added some suggestions for how to make a night of it, while also thawing those feet from the cold. Hot Toddies all round!

Fireworks in Leeds

Roundhay Park

Taking place the day before Bonfire Night, Roundhay Park will be welcoming 70,000 people to gaze into Leeds' biggest bonfire, which will be lit at 7.30pm, before fireworks kick off at 8pm. Fri 4 Nov.

Warm up after with: A craft beer at Preston in Oakwood, where the fridges are always well stocked with great stuff from across the North.

Woodhouse Moor

For a city centre hit, make a beeline for Woodhouse Moor, where there'll be a bonfire from 7pm and fireworks at 7.30pm. Also taking place the day before 5 Nov, no doubt this'll be a particular hit with students from nearby Leeds Uni and Leeds Beckett Uni round the corner. Fri 4 Nov.

Warm up after with: A Pieminister Pie at Brudenell Social Club. Get The Mothership (pie, mash, minted peas, cheese, onions and gravy for £7.50) for a truly hearty hit.

Fireworks in Liverpool

River of Light

This year, Liverpool and the Wirral are teaming up to go big with a River of Light firework display, set to dazzle crowds lining each side of the river. World-renowned drummers Les Commandos Percu and Deabru Beltzak will be winding along a city centre route, while street entertainers including fire dancers, fire performers and flow arts promoters will also keep spirits high throughout at Hamilton Square/Woodside Ferry Terminal, Albert Dock Salthouse Quay, Mann Island and Prices Parade. Sat 5 Nov.

Warm up after with: A night of dancing at Invisible Wind Factory; Bicep's on as part of ENRG 03: Sound Energy, so you won't be feeling chilly for long.

Spark in the Park

Over in St Helens it's time for the annual free fireworks display Spark in the Park, which sees over 30,000 revellers take to Sherdley Park for fairground rides from 6pm, a children's fireworks display at 7pm and the grand finale at 8pm – both of which will be launched to the rhythm of classic movie soundtracks for this year's theme of 'Saturday Night at the Movies.'

Warm up after with: A pint at The Turk's Head after heading back into town. Nowt more warming than a pint of proper, traditional ale in a proper, traditional pub.

Fireworks in Manchester

Heaton Park

Heaton Park will once again become home to one of the region's biggest Bonfire Night bashes, with fireworks, a huge bonfire and funfair all on the agenda. With free entry, expect it to be a busy one, and don't forget to pack your torch for navigating those paths. Sat 5 Nov.

Warm up after with: A 20 minute stroll to All the Shapes in nearby Prestwich, where you'll find a bottle of Argentinian Malbec (£20) with your name on it.

Platt Fields Park

Ideally located for a warming post-big bang curry in Rusholme, the free fireworks at Platt Fields Park always draw in the crowds with a bonfire, due to be lit at 7.30pm, and a funfair from 5.30pm. Particularly handy for Fallowfield's student masses, who're able to amble 10 minutes down the road before hopping onto a Magic Bus to dive further into the Oxford Road corridor to continue their night. Sat 5 Nov.

Warm up after with: The city's finest curry, found down the road at Mughli. The fireworks didn't cost you a penny so you've got a spare few bob to splash; just be sure to book ahead, before sitting back and basking in the glory of a perfectly planned Bonfire Night.

Horse and Jockey

Chorlton heads need to get themselves down to the Horse and Jockey, where as usual they'll be capitalising on the green out front with a children's firework display at 7pm, followed by a later adults' one at 9pm. Entry's free and there'll be an outside bar and BBQ all night. Sat 5 Nov.

Warm up after with: A drink at Chorlton's newest boozer, Henry C. It's only a 15 minute walk from the Horse and Jockey, so you'll have earnt a reinvigorating Manhattan by the time you've made it, or ask 'em to knock you up something off-menu.
