The average night at the theatre will consist of one, possibly two shows at most, so when a theatre company attempts to stage six new short plays in one evening, it’s surely a task that requires a lot of skill. But Limited Editions, from Strange Town Young Company has successfully achieved this feat to great effect.

With plays ranging from an outsider finally finding her voice in Tim Primrose’s Pussy Whipped, to a couple struggling with a loss in Beth Godfrey’s To Have and to Hold, to the connections made during a local blood drive in Amy Drummond’s Please Give 1, the evening was a very eclectic one.

One of the most striking things about Limited Editions is just how effortlessly the production flowed, with all the cast working together as a team to prepare the stage for each piece. And it’s this sense of unity that makes this evening stand out, as all unnecessary breaks, pauses and disruptions have been removed in order to concentrate on the performance. While each piece explored such themes as social exclusion, relationships and working long hours in a minimum wage job, the diversity of the evening was complimented by the talent and dedication of the performers, directors and actors.

Although each individual play was both original and well-realised, Primrose’s Pussy Whipped, Godfrey’s To Have and to Hold and Sam Siggs’ The Pest, were the highlights of the evening. Funny, witty and well-presented, Limited Editions is a prime example of Edinburgh’s emerging theatre talent.
