Traverse Theatre unveils Spring 2016 programme

Edinburgh's Traverse Theatre has announced details of its Spring 2016 programme, featuring new theatre from playwrights and companies from across Scotland and beyond.

The season is headlined by the European premiere of Right Now by Quebeçois playwright Catherine-Anne Toupin. The new piece, co-produced with Theatre Royal Bath Ustinov Studio and London's Bush Theatre, runs at Traverse from 19 April to 7 May. Also in the programme, Stellar Quines (The Fair Intellectual Club, Jennifer Tremblay Trilogy) present the world premiere of Rebecca Sharp's The Air That Carries The Weight from 24-26 March, and Vanishing Point follow up their "visually stunning" Fringe production Tomorrow with new show The Destroyed Room from 9-12 March.

New work by Traverse Young Writers group plays alongside a new production of Simon Armitage's Eclipse, and Traverse's Two Minute Manifesto events, blending politics, music, poetry and performance, come to a conclusion on the night of the Scottish Parliament elections (5 May) with a look back on the year past and into the country's future. 

Elsewhere, Matthew Zajac's The Tailor of Inverness returns for a three-night run in February (9-11 Feb), while Scottish Dance Theatre presents a double bill consisting of Dreamers by Anton Lachky and the world premiere of Process Day by Sharon Eyal and Gai Behar. Traverse Theatre Company production Crash, as seen at this year's Edinburgh Fringe, will tour the UK next April and May, with dates at Glasgow's Tron Theatre (27-28 Apr) and Traverse (29-30 Apr) as well as shows in London, Bristol and Cardiff.

The Spring programme also features the return of both the manipulate visual theatre festival (31 Jan-6 Feb), and Òran Mór's A Play, A Pie and A Pint series of new works to the Traverse. The full Spring 2016 programme can be found on the Traverse website.
