Noisy Nights @ The Traverse Theatre Bar, 23 Feb
‘Write score, submit score, come along, have score played by Red Note Ensemble, drink beer, fall over’
As part of a determined bid to lure out shy music and shamelessly prod it along until it willingly comes out to play, experimental music website Seven Things launches a free Monday night event - Noisy Nights - at the Traverse Theatre bar in Edinburgh, this month. Seven Things, which serves as an eclectic music store and a fervently contemporary record label, is asking composers from across the globe to submit scores and get them played fresh off the sheet by the impressive Red Note Ensemble.
Noisy Nights promises to be an instrumental, electronic, informal, mad, boozed up, left-of-centre mix of contemporary artists with a hit of hard-ass noise. Starting at eight, the event will feature an hour and a half of underground, rising and established musicians all contributing to a unique live performance, which is rounded out with an off-the-wall Skinny-provided DJ at 10. Noisy Nights is part of the Traverse’s new Monday night programme, which also features the events Wildfire and Words Words Words.
After its anticipated success Noisy Nights should soon be crashing into the city of Glasgow.
All submitted scores must be 'sweet but brief', running less than 5 minutes, and must be emailed before the event to john@seventhings.co.uk. Each instrumentation should include Vn/Cl (BCl)/ Trb/ - and video and tape accompaniment can be included.
