HOME, the new creative arts hub formed in the merger of Manchester’s Library Theatre and Cornerhouse, has revealed the details of its opening programme of events for the Spring bank holiday weekend next May.

HOME, currently under construction at First Street North, will launch its film slate with a collaborative music and film project seeing Manchester musicians soundtracking silent films and recently-discovered archive footage. Electronic jazz trio Gogo Penguin – nominated for the 2014 Mercury Prize – are set for the project, and Robin Richards of Dutch Uncles will perform during the space’s opening weekend.

HOME’s opening weekend is led by the world premiere of The Funfair, a new adaptation of Ödön von Horváth’s Kasimir and Karoline by Simon Stephens, the Olivier-winning Stockport playwright behind the theatre adaptation of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. The Funfair is directed by Walter Meierjohann (HOME's Artistic Director: Theatre), who helmed HOME’s site-specific production of Romeo and Juliet at Victoria Baths earlier this year.

HOME officially opens on 21 May 2015, with theatre fans getting an early chance to take in the venue’s 500-seat main theatre as it hosts the world premiere of The Bad by renowned choreographer Hofesh Shechter from 30 Apr to 2 May. The visual art programme at HOME begins with The heart is deceitful above all things, inspired by the story of Kasimir and Karoline and featuring new work from Declan Clarke and Jeremy Bailey as well as existing work from Douglas Coupland among others.

Dave Moutrey, Director and Chief Executive of HOME, says: “This gives a little taste of our artistic ambition for HOME when it opens in May next year. Our opening will introduce audiences to new and extraordinary experiences of outstanding art and show off to the world just what is possible in our beautiful new building.”

HOME’s full 2015 programme will be launched in January 2015. Cornerhouse’s final exhibition Playtime opened this week, and runs until 15 Mar 2015, while HOME have revealed the programme for January's Re:play festival of new and fringe theatre from Manchester and Salford.
