Zoe Lyons: Pop-up Comic

Review by Elaine Reid | 14 Aug 2013

Zoe Lyons’ show is a warm, rich comedy treat, filled to the brim with witty, funny observations and questions about the everyday oddities of life. Questions pondered during the show include, “what do you do if you get stuck in your own waterproof jacket?”, “Why do dog prams exist?”, and “what should a middle-aged lesbian wear to her brother’s wedding?”

Lyons is energetic, incredibly funny and highly likeable. She is the type of person who can’t resist saying na-na-na-na-na when she hears the word phenomenon, who felt petrified and inadequate when she appeared on the TV quiz show University Challenge and who ponders whether a Hollywood conspiracy is the reason whales have been the chosen animal stars of so many films. “What about porpoises?” She's come to realise this quirky mindset is who she is; she's not going to change now. Good Zoe, we very much like you just the way you are.

A fantastically funny show, which will have you laughing heartily from beginning to end, I'm very glad this particular celebrity was “available” for this run in the fringe and has been able to add to her collection of mini shampoo bottles. My cheeks ached from laughing.
