Turin Brakes - Stalker

Falling somewhere between U2's most recent efforts and This Is My Truth… era Manics

Single Review by Neil Ferguson | 08 Oct 2007
Single title: Stalker
Artist: Turin Brakes
Label: Source
The first single from Turin Brakes' latest opus, Dark On Fire, sees the band swinging away from their folk-pop roots and cultivating a much fuller, indie-influenced sound. Falling somewhere between U2's most recent efforts and This Is My Truth… era Manics, there's plenty of jangly guitars and upbeat melodies on display. Juxtaposed with the darker lyrical undertones that have become a staple of Turin Brakes' singles over the years, Stalker is a three minute wander through astute indie pop song-writing but the question of being a step in the wrong direction will, no doubt, be asked by many.
