Tom Jones - If He Should Ever Leave You

Single Review by Chris Buckle | 27 Oct 2008
Single title: If He Should Ever Leave You
Artist: Tom Jones
Label: Parlophone
Release date: 10 Nov

Tom Jones is back! And, unsurprisingly, it’s all a bit rubbish: anachronistically derivative of the leathery crooner’s ‘glory days’, this tune epitomises dull sophistication but is sure to please the less discerning amongst his greying fanbase. But consider how bad it could have been - with Top of the Pops’ demise you’re less likely to stumble across Tom's drunken uncle dancing moves and dry-boke smirk accidentally this time around. And at least Jones is well within his comfort zone; on the last ‘comeback’ he sang with Stereophonics and ‘horny horny horny’ Mousse-T. Cheers for sparing us the Iglu and Hartly duet, Tom.
