The Black Dog - Detroit Vs Sheffield

Single Review by Steve Glencross | 15 Sep 2008
Single title: Detroit Vs Sheffield
Artist: The Black Dog
Label: Soma
Release date: 22 Sep

The Black Dog re-appear with their third EP from the Radio Scarecrow long player. It’s probably the most high profile section from the project so far, bringing in minimal innovator Hood and old skool master The Bass Soldier for remix duties. Hood lays down a fine example of razor sharp minimal techno with his edit of Train By The Autobahn: a polished and hypnotic Hood style riff that hits in all the right places. It's a tad predictable, but will satisfy Hood disciples. The Fogemasters remix of Siiipher is however, a killer: a classic off-beat with super deep atmospherics, sub low kicks and dark anthemic synth licks. The Black Dog may be old skool, but this package is sure to bring them extra fans.
