Red Light Company - Scheme Eugene

Single Review by Gillian Watson | 30 Oct 2008
Single title: Scheme Eugene
Artist: Red Light Company
Label: Lavolta Records
Release date: 3 Nov

Red Light Company prepare for their forthcoming tour with the release of this second single. A slab of earthshaking indie-rock, Scheme Eugene boasts twinkly glacial percussion and walls of backing vocals to make Arcade Fire jealous. Yet it’s easy to be swept away by the layers of radio-friendly guitar hooks and miss the strange hollowness that lies between them. Peel away the bombast, and the band reveal themselves to be curiously lacking in anything to say. One feels that Red Light Company toil for the apocalypse and end up only with a loud bang – impressive, admittedly, but not quite as satisfying.[Gillian Watson]
