Peter Parker - Swallow The Rockets

Single Review by Gillian Watson | 29 Jun 2009
Single title: Swallow The Rockets
Artist: Peter Parker
Label: Lucky Number Nine/Say Dirty
Release date: 6 Jul

Pastel-approved Glasgow quartet Peter Parker, led by Miss The Occupier frontwoman Roz Davies and veteran riot grrl Jane McKeown, look promising on paper, and don't disappoint. This debut 7" is all coolly pretty guitar lines, biting bass and ramshackle harmonies: basically, Sleater-Kinney if they'd had more of a laugh. Swallow The Rockets is a shouty new-waver that fizzes with potential energy like a can of Irn Bru ready to burst, while flipside Temper Temper is more docile but equally as devastating in its simplicity. Peter Parker prove that they're intense about having fun - like a Glaswegian Elastica, only done right. Round one to the girls (and guy).

Peter Parker play Captain's Rest, Glasgow on 26 Jun; the launch of the Swallow The Rockets single is at the same venue on 5 Jul.
