Lightspeed Champion - Midnight Surprise

A disappointing edit that has removed many of the best movements of the original song

Single Review by Neil Ferguson | 08 Oct 2007
Single title: Midnight Surprise
Artist: Lightspeed Champion
Label: Domino
With the original version of Midnight Surprise clocking in at an epic ten minutes, the transformation into three and a half minute single was never going to be comfortable. Passing through mood after mood of folk, alt-country, sunny pop and rock in a flash, altogether too much happens for the song to sound coherent in its reduced form. Doing justice to neither Lightspeed Champion, nor the truly wonderful song from which the single has come, this is a disappointing edit that has removed many of the best movements of the original song and loses the entire context of the piece. Bloody radio. [Neil Ferguson]
