Lethal Bizzle - Go Hard

Too often, British urban music has been found in awe of America. Since the arrival of dubstep a few years ago though, inner cities have reverbated to the sub-sonic sounds of distinctly UK-flavoured creations – the likes of bassline, funky and even glitch hop now stand up against the omnipresent hip hop / R&B. On Go Hard, genre-jumping rapper Lethal Bizzle welds a classic break to a menacingly throbbing bassline and idiosyncratic Londoner's lyrics (“YouTube is it / Rock Star is it / NME innit”). It sounds like it could only have been made in Britain in 2009: distinctive, confident and new. [Euan Ferguson]
