Kobai - We Move In Waves

Single title: We Move In Waves
Artist: Kobai
Label: Kobai Records
Release date: 2 June 08

This is the second single from Kobai, a six-piece electronic outfit from Glasgow. At the mixing desk is producer Kevin Burleigh, whose previous credits include Mogwai, Glasvegas and The Dirty Pretty Things. As expected, the production quality is excellent, and complements the band's tight performance.
We Move in Waves kicks of with a fantastic drumbeat, reminiscent of the Glitter band or early Adam and the Ants, whilst the main hook sees vocalist Ross Hinton chanting an irresistably catchy "Let's Go Let's Go". Tapping into the energy of football chants, it demonstrates an obvious crossover potential, without appearing contrived. With their synthesis of glam rock and electronica, Kobai are a band who could really make it big. The second mix, by Chris Gordon, is a more dancefloor orientated take on the original, awash with synth squelches and bleeps. Hinton's chants are heavily processed through a Jeff Lynne-esque vocoder, but retain their driving edge. The Gordon mix successfully extends Kobai's appeal to include dancefloor credibility. Cracking.
