Jocasta Sleeps - Crayfish Cocktail

Single Review by Allan Valente | 17 Jun 2009
Single title: Crayfish Cocktail
Artist: Jocasta Sleeps
Label: Euphonios Records
Release date: 29 June 2009

Jocasta was a luckless figure, even by the oft ill-fated standards of Greek mythology. A murdered husband and a slightly more intimate relationship with her son than she could have ever possibly wanted were ghastly ingredients in a recipe for disaster. Jocasta Sleeps, luckily, are far from such tragedy. Crayfish Cocktail is a promising signal of intent from the Glaswegian outfit and is one which displays the kind of punch and charm that has propelled Biffy Clyro into the mainstream with Puzzle. Callum Wiseman’s desperate vocals add a rough, unmistakeably Scottish edge to the affair and while the lyrics may appear downbeat, the jagged guitar and steady drumbeat make for surprisingly pleasant and lively listening.

Jocasta Sleeps play Hoots, Inverness on 25 June; Sneaky Pete's, Edinburgh on 26 June; Nice 'n' Sleazy, Glasgow on 28 June; Greenside Hotel, Lesie on 18 July; Snafu, Aberdeen on 23 Jule and Doghouse, Dundee on 24 July.
