Indigo Moss - Nature of this Town

Positively archaic, well put together, but utterly baffling

Single Review by Heather Crumley | 08 Oct 2007
Single title: Nature of this Town
Artist: Indigo Moss
Label: Butterfly
Nature Of This Town is certainly not describing Indigo Moss' native London: rather, they're hallucinating and think they're in the Wild West, where ukuleles are commonplace and people use the term 'juice joint'. With its hoe-down tempo and communal sing-song, it's a positively archaic effort, well put together but utterly baffling. Perhaps the most surprising thing, though, is that after a few listens and imagining the singer to be a cowgirl version of Kate Nash, it transpires that the singer is a bloke named Trevor. It's a tough song to criticise as there's not really anything wrong with it, but it's so anti-zeitgeist that it just seems a bit pointless. [Heather Crumley]
