HEALTH - Die Slow

HEALTH provide the soundtrack to the apocalypse, and it's funky.

Single Review by Joe Barton | 14 Apr 2009
Single title: Die Slow
Artist: HEALTH
Label: Gold Star
Release date: 13 Apr

HEALTH, like their Caps-Lock screamed name, stand out amongst both guitar and synth bands. Maybe it’s their ability to make convincingly futuristic music, even if it is pretty dystopian; Die Slow opens with what sounds like someone vomiting into a Talkbox, before being scribbled over by scraped guitar harmonics. Jacob Duzsik’s vocals are drowned in reverb, rendering lyrics incomprehensible, and forcing the listener to mumble their own interpretation of the mighty chorus hook. If you ever wondered what the inside of a Matrix-style, post-apocalyptic, robot nightclub would sound like, now you know.

HEALTH play Stereo, Glasgow on 19 April.
