As well as making the plus-size cool, Beth Ditto should be credited with bringing 21st century soul to the masses by way of her extraordinary vocal talents. Standing In the Way of Control possessed two qualities that guaranteed its instant ubiquity: a stomping garage-rock riff and Ditto's gospel-strength voice. This time the abrasive guitar is filtered out to reveal a bluesy interplay between a familiar bassline and that now familiar voice.
