Finniston - Week Days Off

Trite melodies, uninspiring lyrics and a by-the-numbers structure

Single Review by Les Ogilvie | 07 Dec 2007
Single title: Week Days Off
Artist: Finniston
Label: Ruby
Aside from the competent execution, it's reasonably difficult to find anything positive to say about Week Days Off. It's equally as difficult to say anything really negative, which confuses the issue somewhat. This is as bland as guitar music gets: trite melodies, uninspiring lyrics and a by-the-numbers structure. It has a certain amount of lo-fi charm but the whole thing is so watery that it should be prescribed for cases of urinary retention. B-Side Words Can Only Try is a much more interesting piece. A pleasant little arpeggiated, folky number, unfortunately it still struggles to demonstrate much that sets it apart from the crowd. [Les Ogilvie]
